highs and lows

I'm thankful for all the blogs that say anyone who says their diabetes is under control is lying, because it makes me feel better when I can't figure things out. I was high all day today.  I didn't want to over correct, especially because on a Saturday at work, if we get busy, I can't afford to not catch a low fast enough...So I under figured my lunch and tried to make up for a it later, but I was still high even after correcting...so I thought I over corrected at dinner, but as it turns out...I didn't.  I'm still high.  Last week at this time I couldn't seem to keep myself above a hundred no matter what I did.  I'm exhausted today though so maybe I'm getting sick.
I open tomorrow morning and after that I'm off until 3 on Wednesday.  AWESOME.  I never have 2 days off in a row, so to open, be off in a row and then close...its almost like having 3 full days off.  I'm not sure what I'm going to do with myself!  Not true.  I have a list...a long one.
The only thing on my list right now though, is bed.

  1. Hey! Just wanted to reply to your question about pumps you left over at sixuntilme (I'm her assistant, but I didn't know if you'd re-check comments, so here I am :) )
choosing a pump can be difficult. I've been on a minimed my whole life, but I see pros and cons to all three brands.
Minimed has an escape button - which seems silly but it allows you to push one button and go to the previous screen (animas doesn't have this, you have to scroll all the way down and push "back" or something like that). Minimed also has a BolusWizard button - which allows for very quick, accurate bolusing with BG an carb count.
Animas has the Ping, which is awesome because you can bolus from your meter. They also have a lot more color options. The ping is a HUGE selling point for some people.
Omnipod is pretty comparable as far as features, but they are tubless of course. From experience working with a LOT of people with OP, their pods are very unreliable and give a lot of failures, and you can't get the insulin back out of them. I think the idea behind it is great but that company has a lot of work to do.

If you have ANY questions at all, feel free to email me abby@sixuntilme.com I'd love to help :)

    Good luck pumping!

  2. Oh how I hate that word "control". I'd rather say "manage" because we try to manage our diabetes as best we can, but it doesn't always work. I've been T1 for 32 years, and I still have days when I feel like everything I do is wrong. I hope that makes you feel less alone!! And I hope things have settled down a bit. I'm sending hugs and stable blood sugar vibes!!

  3. Karen, I just had a lot of fun reading some of your blogs! Thanks for sharing and for commenting :D And I agree...manage is a much more user friendly word. Gives more room for error and correction...
Abby, Thanks so much - I'm definitely giving the Ping a second look now and while I love the idea of being tubeless with the OmniPod...reliability is important and having never used a pump before, THAT seems like the biggest factor (tubing), but so many people are attached that it must be something you get use to fairly quickly...
